Unity Theatre reopens Open Call programme for 2022

Liverpool’s Unity Theatre has relaunched its Open Call programme for artists.

The Hope Place venue is offering up to 20 Merseyside companies and artists the chance to share a slice of funding to develop work and become part of the theatre’s 2022 programme.

The closing date for applications is March 18.

Last year’s inaugural Open Call – launched to support the creative community through the pandemic - was aimed at assisting 12 companies and individuals, but the response was so great that the theatre started a Crowdfunder to raise enough money to extend the programme and double the number of recipients.

The Unity is now inviting new applications from people or companies who want to stage work at the theatre, create a digital/online production, outdoor event, rehearsed reading, community project, creative workshop or who simply need the space and expertise to develop ideas.

The initiative is divided into four categories: Programme, Creative Experience Projects, Up Next Showcase and Space to Create.

The first two will receive a guaranteed fee of £1,250 per successful applicant, while Up Next recipients will get up to £750 and ‘space to create’ applicants will be given up to five days of free rehearsal and development space.
