The Piano's Brad Kella announces Philharmonic Hall debut

Liverpool star of TV’s The Piano, Brad Kella, is set to make his Philharmonic Hall debut this autumn.

Kella, who stunned judges Lang Lang and Mika on the hit Channel 4 programme and went on to be named winner of its second series, will appear at the Hope Street landmark on November 29.

The date follows the release last week of the 23-year-old’s debut single Eve and Frank, co-written with arranger, conductor and cellist Rosie Danvers, and ahead of an album due to be released in the New Year.

The Piano, presented by Claudia Winkleman, celebrates gifted amateur pianists who are invited to play live in some of Britain’s busiest railway stations.

Kella, who had never had a formal piano lesson and can’t read music, stunned commuters on the concourse at Lime Street Station where he played an original composition, New Beginning – despite later revealing that minutes before he sat down at the keyboard, full of nerves outside, he’d been stopped by police asking him what he was doing.

Judges and viewers were astounded by Bootle-raised Kella’s playing and moved by his inspiring life story of a troubled and fractured childhood being transformed when he and twin brother Aron were fostered at the age of seven.

He paid tribute to his foster parents Eve and Frank in words and also in music during the series and was crowned the winner of the contest at a special concert at which all the finalists performed. The couple are also celebrated in the title of his first record.

Now the dad-of-one is set to appear at the Philharmonic Hall and tickets for the event are selling fast.

Kella says: “I was always fascinated with music. Even as a little boy, watching films with my mum, I’d be drawn to the sound effects from the TV.

“Then later, when I went to high school, I heard a teacher playing the piano, and I remember thinking how amazing it was that someone could do that. It was like something in me clicked.”
