The Light Before Christmas brings Starlight to Liverpool Cathedral

The Light Before Christmas will return to Liverpool Cathedral this season for a third year.

The magical, family-friendly son et lumière from Luxmuralis will be staged from November 29 to December 7 as part of the Grade I listed cathedral’s centenary year celebrations.

This year’s immersive, sensory experience is titled Starlight and will invite visitors to follow the star and experience the Nativity story in a new way, in what Luxmuralis’ creative director Peter Walker describes as “a wonderful experience for families and people of all ages.”

He says: “We’re delighted to return to create our third Christmas light show in the cathedral. The partnership we have together helps us create one of the largest immersive experiences anywhere in the world, and to welcome tens of thousands of visitors.

“Starlight will bring the cathedral to life with light and sound art on an epic scale.

“It’s becoming a bit of a tradition in Liverpool to visit and experience the cathedral in a different light each year in the build up to Christmas.”

The previous two Light Before Christmas events both sold out and for this year organisers have added an extra Saturday to the running dates

The Very Rev Dr Sue Jones, Dean of Liverpool, say: “We’re delighted to see the return of the Light Before Christmas for its third year. We know how it has become a Christmas tradition for so many families, so we asked Luxmuralis to return with a new story to celebrate our centenary year.

“The Light Before Christmas: Starlight will offer visitors a different way of engaging with the Nativity story that people enjoy and love. It offers the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to come together and enjoy a festive experience.”

Peak date tickets are £11.55 for adults, £9.35 for children aged three to 16, and £33 for a family ticket for two adults and two children. Off peak tickets (Monday to Wednesday) are £10.45, £7.70 and £29.70 respectively. Children under three go free.
