Superstar Swift inspires Liverpool Loves trail

Pop superstar Taylor Swift is set to play three sold out shows in Liverpool this summer – and the city is creating a series of events to welcome fans.

The multi award-winning global star will play at Anfield stadium on June 13-15 as part of her Eras tour, with tens of thousands of concertgoers expected to descend on the city.

Among the events being planned under the ‘Liverpool Loves’ banner – and announced today – is a Taylor Town Trail of 11 art installations which are inspired by and celebrate her music and different ‘eras’ of her stellar career.

The city council has teamed up with creative social enterprise Make CIC to develop the artworks which will be located at venues like Liverpool ONE, Metquarter and the Royal Albert Dock from June 8-16.

They will include a ‘red room’ to represent her Red era, giant hearts to signify her Love era, and a moss-covered piano to represent Swift’s Evermore era.

Meanwhile a series of ticketed craft workshops - called Liverpool Loves Taylor (Craft Version) - will also take place at the Metquarter, where people can get creative with origami which will eventually form part of one of the installations, transform T-shirts in a session called Swif-tee Transformation, upcycle denim, make collages and decorate cupcakes.

A Liverpool Loves Taylor banner has been installed on the façade of St George’s Hall as an additional welcome to fans.

And the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Popular Music is hosting a free Tay Day on June 12 for fans, students and academics to look at the whole Swift cultural phenomenon.

The city’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Health and wellbeing, Councillor Harry Doyle, said: “If there was ever going to be a city that would go all-out with a welcome for Taylor Swift and the Swifties it was bound to be Liverpool.

“We’re a city well-versed in welcoming visitors from across the globe – Eurovision being a prime example – and we wanted to use the unrivalled creative talent in this city to develop a unique trail which will attract people to the city centre, give them an experience they won’t get in any other location, and as a result encourage them to spend time making the most of our hospitality and leisure offer.”

The Taylor Town Trail will run from June 8-16.
