Shakespeare North Playhouse open day celebrates a sound town

Shakespeare North Playhouse is set to hold an open day next weekend to mark the culmination of its Our Town’s Sound Project.

Visitors to the Prescot theatre on Saturday, November 2 will have the opportunity to take part in a series of creative activities and workshops, as well as enjoying performances, to celebrate the town and wider area.

Drop-in activities include arts and crafts, writing sessions, interactive games and audio recording sessions, while pre-bookable workshops will be held on storytelling and the spoken word along with interactive drama games for youngsters aged four to eight and eight to 11.

Special exhibitions will feature short films, interactive installations and an illustration showcase. And there will be short live performances from Art for Action and Buzz Hub, inspired by local language.

Our Town’s Sound Project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and inspired by Shakespeare’s legacy of adding more than 750 words and phrases to the English language, has explored the evolution of local language and dialects through collaboration with schools, community groups, artists and historians.

The open day at Shakespeare North Playhouse takes place on November 2 from 11am to 4pm. More details and booking workshop places HERE
