Royle Family duo announce Shakespeare North Playhouse date

Brookside and Royle Family stars Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston are heading for Shakespeare North Playhouse next month to celebrate and reminisce about their careers and their four-decade working partnership and friendship.

An Audience with Ricky Tomlinson & Sue Johnston takes place in the Prescot venue’s Cockpit Theatre on Friday, February 16 and promises a memorable evening of raucous laughter as they share stories and memories.

Tickets for the event go on priority sale to Cockpit Circle Members at 10am tomorrow, and on general sale this Friday.

Tomlinson and Johnston rose to stardom as Bobby and Sheila Grant in Liverpool soap opera Brookside, appearing in its first episode in 1982, before going on to play on-screen spouses again as parents Jim and Barbara Royle in Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash’s multi award-winning sitcom The Royle Family.

Their hilarious performances as the Royles spanned more than a decade, ensuring the show became - and remained - one of Britain’s most beloved and popular comedies.

Last summer it was announced the pair were also filming a three-part travel series for More4 titled Ricky, Sue & a Trip or Two, visiting significant places from their shared history and destinations they have always wanted to see together.
