Play On! at Liverpool Playhouse this autumn

A thrilling new jazz-infused reimagining of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night comes to the Playhouse stage this autumn.

Play On! is set against the backdrop of New York's famous Cotton Club and fuses the music of Duke Ellington with street dance choreography.

It will be staged at the Williamson Square theatre from October 15-19.

Vy is a talented songwriter looking to make it big in the 1940s Harlem scene.

She quickly learns from her uncle Jester that women will never be taken seriously in a man’s world. But, like many a strong hero, she refuses to accept defeat.

After she meets club owner The Duke and sensational nightclub singer Lady Liv, Vy is swept up in a syncopated symphony of melodies, mistaken identities and romance. Who will come out on top?

The show comes from Talawa Theatre Company and Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre, and is co-produced by the Everyman and Playhouse, Birmingham Hippodrome, Bristol Old Vic, Lyric Hammersmith and Wiltshire Creative. It forms part of Talawa’s Black Joy season.

Play On! is at the Liverpool Playhouse from October 15-19. Tickets HERE
