Physical Fest returns to Live Liverpool venues for 2021
Physical Fest returns for 2021 with a mixture of live performances, online events and workshops.
The annual international festival of physical theatre, run in the city by Liverpool company Tmesis Theatre, is the only one of its kind in the world.
This year’s festival takes place from Sunday, June 27 to Friday, July 2.
It opens at the Unity Theatre on June 27 and 28 with Dive – A Night of New Physical Theatre featuring four extracts of new pieces on one programme; Rewind by Ephemeral Ensemble, Unbroken – Facing North Theatre, Rowena Gander from Barely Visible, and The Secret of Cerise by Tipsy Cow Productions.
Toxteth TV is the venue for Lucy Hopkins’ Ceremony of Golden Truth on June 27. Hopkins is an award-winning clown, creative consultant and ‘High Priestess of Idiot’.
On Monday, June 28 the festival expands from the city centre to encompass Albert Walker Hall at the Lineacre Methodist Mission in Litherland where Tmesis Theatre will present the site-specific work Memoria, a poetic and visceral exploration of memory and nostalgia.
It will be staged until Friday, July 2 at the venue which has been restored with the aid of Heritage Lottery funding, with Memoria being the first event held since the hall reopened.
And then on July 2, the exterior of the Metropolitan Cathedral forms the backdrop for Joli Vyann’s Lance Moi En L’Air.
Joli Vyann creates an innovative fusion of circus, dance and theatre and the free 25-minute performance, which takes place at 3pm and again at 5pm, is about the sensitivity and connection between two people.
Artistic director Elinor Randle said: “We’re very pleased, after a difficult year for the arts, to be back with our festival, celebrating exciting new contemporary physical theatre, continuing to support emerging and female artists and producing our own site-specific piece, Memoria.”
Physical Fest runs from June 26-July 2. For the full programme, including details of online events, and tickets visit the website HERE
