Philharmonic Hall stage to get revamp this summer

The Philharmonic Hall’s main stage is due to get a major makeover this summer.

The Art Deco landmark, which is 85 this year, will see its main house closed for four months from early June to early October for what are being described as 'planned improvements'.

It is understood these will include enhanced wheelchair access to the stage, and creating more choir spaces.

Concerts and events will continue to take place in the contemporary Music Room at the hall, and at the Tung Auditorium at the University of Liverpool’s Yoko Ono Lennon Centre in Oxford Street.

The RLPO will also spend some of the time ‘on tour’ – with a series of concerts in Barrow on Furness, and a new collaboration with the Bootleg Beatles, bringing the Fab Four’s ‘Blue Album’ to life at concerts in Liverpool, Gateshead and Edinburgh.

Meanwhile the orchestra and chief conductor Domingo Hindoyan are also set to embark on an international tour next week when they are joined by Japanese superstar pianist Nobo Tsujii for concert dates in Tokyo.
