Milap celebrates 40th anniversary with spring programme of concerts

Liverpool-based Milap is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and has a busy spring programme of concerts showcasing some of the very best of established and emerging talent from the UK and abroad.

The season got off to a start earlier in February with a lunchtime performance from violinist Aparna Raguraman at the Tung Auditorium in the University of Liverpool’s Yoko Ono Lennon Building.

It continues on February 22 when Milap returns to the Liverpool International Jazz Festival with a concert at the Capstone Theatre in Everton, where it presents Beyond Roots, an afternoon of music featuring the extraordinary talents of versatile, multi-award-winning British pianist and composer Rekesh Chauhan and internationally renowned tabla maestro Kousic Sen.

The first evening concert of the season features the world-renowned, multi GRAMMY Award winner Rakesh Chaurasia on the bansuri (bamboo flute). Chaurasia is a British pianist and composer who is celebrated worldwide for his expressive and technically masterful playing. He will appear at the Tung Auditorium on March 16, accompanied by tabla maestro Shahbaz Hussain.

And on April 2, Milap returns to the Tung for a free lunchtime concert shining a spotlight on the rich, melodious sounds of acclaimed sitarist Mehboob Nadeem. He will be accompanied by the dynamic tabla maestro Kousic Sen,

Milap was established in 1985 as a way of bringing people across the northwest together with a common love for the arts, and over the past four decades it has grown to become the UK’s leading Indian Arts and Culture company with a remit that continues to focus on performance, learning and development.
