Legendary literary and TV detective Inspector Morse is set to make his stage debut in a new murder mystery coming to the Liverpool Playhouse next year.

Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts will be staged at the Williamson Square theatre from January 13-17, 2026.

Holby City and Father Brown actor, and former Strictly Come Dancing champion, Tom Chambers will play the titular DCI in the first-ever stage adaptation of Colin Dexter’s smash hit detective series.

A chilling mystery unfolds when a young actress suddenly dies on stage during a performance, and Morse embarks on a gripping investigation.

What begins as a suspicious death inquiry takes a darker turn when the inspector, together with DS Lewis, uncovers a connection to sinister events in his own past, 25 years earlier.

The play, based on Dexter’s characters, is written by Alma Cullen and the touring production will be directed by Anthony Banks.

Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts is at the Liverpool Playhouse from January 13-17, 2026. Tickets HERE
