Liverpool Empire date for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – the Musical comes to the Liverpool Empire in 2023 as part of an inaugural UK tour for the West End and Broadway hit.

It will be staged at the Lime Street theatre from November 8-26, 2023, with tickets going on general sale on July 8.

The new Leeds Playhouse production of the show tells the story of Charlie Bucket who wins one of five special golden tickets to visit the fabulous factory of the weird and wonderful confectionary king Willy Wonka.

For the five young winners it may seem like the chance to gorge themselves on the sweets they have always dreamed of, but beyond the gates they discover not everything in the sugary wonderland is as sweet as it seems.

The show features songs from the original 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, including Pure Imagination, as well as new numbers.

It was originally premiered in the West End in 2013, where it was directed by Sam Mendes and ran for three years, and on Broadway in 2017.

This new production is directed by James Brining and has a set by Simon Higlett (also responsible for the design of the current touring production of Singin’ In The Rain at the Liverpool Empire this week).
