Ian Rankin makes Liverpool date with new Rebus novel

The 'king of tartan noir' Ian Rankin is set to appear in Liverpool next month to talk about his new Rebus detective thriller.

An Evening with Ian Rankin takes place in the Concert Room at St George’s Hall on October 8.

The bestselling author will be interviewed by TV presenter and journalist Louise Minchin about Midnight and Blue, the 25th book in his hit Inspector Rebus series, due to be published on October 10.

Tickets for the event, which is being organised by Heswall’s Linghams Booksellers in conjunction with Shropshire independent retailer Booka Bookshop, cost £35 including a copy of the book, or £45 for two people with one book included.

Rankin’s creation John Rebus was first introduced in the 1987 book Knots & Crosses, and since then he has appeared in more than two dozen literary adventures as well as being turned into the chief protagonist in a hit TV series starring Ken Stott and, most recently, a new BBC drama with Richard Rankin.

In Midnight and Blue, Inspector Rebus finds himself embroiled in a terrifying game of cat and mouse as he is forced to join the crowd of Edinburgh’s deadliest criminals.

Rankin is the winner of a host of awards and accolades including a coveted Diamond Dagger from the Crime Writers’ Association. He was knighted in 2022 for services to literature and charity.

Meanwhile broadcaster Louise Minchin spent a decade as one of the main presenters on BBC Breakfast. She has just released her debut thriller titled Isolation Island.

Sue Porter of Linghams Booksellers says: “Ian Rankin is a giant of the crime fiction genre so it’s a real privilege to be able to host him in this special evening at St George’s Hall where he will be interviewed by Louise Minchin.

“The release of each new Inspector Rebus novel is a much-anticipated event and Midnight and Blue is no exception.”
