Ian Prowse plays O2 Academy date ahead of record re-release

Liverpool singer-songwriter Ian Prowse is set to re-release his LP The Journey in the New Year to mark two decades since the record was first heard.

And ahead of that, the Pele and Amsterdam frontman will play a gig at the 02 Academy where fans can enjoy hits including the Amsterdam LP’s Does This Train Stop on Merseyside?

A favourite of the late John Peel, and acclaimed by fellow musicians including Elvis Costello, the anthem was also covered in 2009 by Christy Moore on his number one album Listen, and has been streamed more than one million times across Spotify and YouTube.

A documentary about Does This Train Stop On Merseyside? and which features talking heads such as Costello, Moore, Brian Nash and Paul Du Noyer, is set to announce streaming dates soon.

Meanwhile the 02 Academy event on December 7 will feature a 13-piece band and special guests The Blow Monkeys.

Prowse says: “We have the mother of all parties. People are coming in from Sweden, Italy, Canada, France and from all over Ireland and the UK… it’s always a real rabble-rouser!”

Prowse formed Pele in the 90s and their first three singles made Radio 1 A-list with Megalomania reaching the top of the charts in South Africa. His next band Amsterdam enjoyed Top 40 success in 2005.

The singer-songwriter has recently enjoyed a sold-out Pele Fireworks 30th anniversary tour with Amsterdam and is support of choice for acts like Elvis Costello, The Wonder Stuff and The Blow Monkeys. He has released 11 studio albums.
