Go Wild Swimming at the Hope Street Theatre

Wirral’s Off the Ground Theatre is set to return to Hope Street next month with a new production for its 30th birthday year.

The West Kirby-based company will present Marek Horn’s Wild Swimming at the Hope Street Theatre from March 6-8.

Nell and Oscar meet on a beach in 1595, or is it 1610? Oscar has returned from university and Nell is doing nothing at all, because, well, she can’t. They will meet here again, and again, and again, on this beach, over the next 400 years. Some things will change, as they do with time. Some things won’t.

Off the Ground describes the play as ‘an exploration of feminism and cultural progress. It is an interrogation of gender (sex) and privilege, and a wilfully ignorant history of English literature, shown through the turbulent relationship between two young people.’

A development showcase production, Wild Swimming features two of Off the Ground’s recent youth theatre graduates - Amy Hope-Thompson and Harry Clark.

Co-director Connor Wray said: “This is a beautiful play that tells with equal respect and weighting the progress of Nell and Oscar’s relationship, but also the glacially slow progress of feminism in society over the last 400 or so years.

“It’s amazing to see our young people stepping up to showcase their abilities in the professional arena, something we as a company are always looking to give young artists an opportunity to do.”

Off the Ground Theatre was established in 1995 with the aim of producing quality theatre which is accessible to all and particularly champions access to drama and theatre for young people. It currently stages up to 10 productions a year including youth theatre, open air and touring shows.

Wild Swimming is at the Hope Street Theatre from March 6-8. Tickets HERE
