BID events celebrate city centre streets this summer

Street performers, marching bands and a competition to find the city’s best busker are coming to Liverpool city centre this summer.

Liverpool BID Company is organising the free Celebrate Bold Street and Celebrate Castle Street events which take place during August.

Last Saturday, August 6 Castle Street venues staged chef and cocktail demonstrations while the street itself was full of performances with glitter artists, giant puppet waiters and Batala Mersey.

Meanwhile the Town Hall hosted free yoga classes and a ukulele workshop.

This Saturday, August 13, all eyes turn to Bold Street where there will be a marching band from Albert Schloss, DJs in stores like COW and Resurrection, live music from Mike Blue, giant giraffe and lion street performers, children’s craft sessions to create sock puppets, face painters, outdoor market stalls and indoor craft stalls at Leaf with local makers selling their handmade gifts, prints, jewellery, art and ceramics, as well as food and drink offers in venues up and down the street.

In addition, a Scouse Busker competition will take place on each day, with the victorious busker winning a free session in a recording studio and a chance to play at the Cavern.

Liverpool BID Company chief executive Bill Addy said: “We’re looking forward to being able to showcase our local businesses with these free family events.

“It’s a great opportunity to sample the culture and creativity of our local businesses working on some of our favourite city centre high streets.”

Celebrate Bold Street is on August 13 and runs from 11am to 6pm.
