An Inspector Calls again at Liverpool Empire
An Inspector Calls is set to return to the Liverpool Empire after a sell-out run at the Lime Street theatre in 2023.
The multi award-winning National Theatre production of JB Priestley’s modern morality classic, directed by Stephen Daldry, will spend a week at the venue in November as part of a new UK tour.
When Inspector Goole arrives unexpectedly at the prosperous Birling family home, their peaceful dinner party is shattered by his investigations into the death of a young woman.
His startling revelations shake the very foundations of their lives and challenge us all to examine our consciences.
Since 1992, Daldry’s production has won a total of 19 major awards, including four Tony Awards and three Olivier Awards, and has played to more than five million theatregoers worldwide.
The director said: “We’re thrilled to be presenting another tour of An Inspector Calls. We could never have dreamt that it would be just as relevant today as when it was first written.”
Casting is yet to be announced.
Priestley wrote An Inspector Calls in 1945 and it was premiered in the Soviet Union, coming to the London stage the following year. Eighty years on, it remains one of the English playwright’s most performed and acclaimed plays.
An Inspector Calls comes to the Liverpool Empire from November 19-23. Tickets HERE
