Walker extends the Linda McCartney Retrospective into 2021
Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery is extending the run of its acclaimed Linda McCartney exhibition due to demand from visitors.
The major retrospective was due to shut its doors on November 1.
But now gallery bosses have decided to extend the show until January next year.
The Linda McCartney Retrospective, which was first staged at the Kelvingrove art gallery in Glasgow, features around 250 photographs taken by and featuring the late photographer during a four-decade career.
They include shots of major music stars including the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Simon and Garfunkel and Aretha Franklin as well as behind the scenes images of The Beatles and candid and intimate shots of homelife with husband Paul and their children.
The show also features photos pictures taken in Scotland and on visits to Liverpool and Wirral, along with Polariods and sun prints, contact sheets, ephemera, and archive materials, including some of McCartney’s journals from the 1960s and several of her cameras.

Sandra Penketh, Executive Director for Galleries and Collections Care at National Museums Liverpool, said: “The response from our visitors to the Linda McCartney Retrospective has been overwhelming.
“From the intimacy of her family photographs to the unique way she captured the world around her, people have discovered not only unforgettable photographs but a huge sense of love and joy within the exhibition.
“We're thrilled that we have been able to extend the exhibition’s run to give more people the chance to see it.
“It’s particularly exciting to have it on over the festive period, when we know families love to visit the gallery and we think they will particularly enjoy the shots of Linda’s family at home in Liverpool for Christmas.”
The show also includes a new addition, Home for All, a display of work by members of the Crisis Photography Group and inspired by themes within the exhibition.
The Linda McCartney Retrospective is at the Walker Art Gallery until January 10 2021. Tickets HERE
