Laughterhouse returns with Theatre Festival shows
Liverpool Laughterhouse is due to reopen its doors to comedy fans at the end of September.
And ahead of that the popular comedy club is announcing its return with a pair of shows as part of the new Liverpool Theatre Festival.
Comedy fans will be able to enjoy a laugh at the Bombed Out Church on Saturday, September 12 where there will be two 75-minute Laughterhouse shows, one at 6pm and the second at 9pm.
The line-up features Daliso Chaponda, Neil Fitzmaurice and Steve Royle with Chris Cairns as MC, and tickets are selling fast for both.
Meanwhile plans are progressing to reopen the doors at the Slaughterhouse over the weekend of September 25-26.
Laughterhouse owner Paula Harrington said: “I said right at the beginning of the pandemic that we weren’t coming back at all until we could make it as safe as possible for the acts, staff and customers.
“We’re a basement club so we can’t just keep the doors open and get enough ventilation. So we’ve invested in a special air purifier which gets rid of 99.9% of viruses and bacteria – it’s an even better system than the one used on aeroplanes.

“Laughterhouse is already in rowed seating and we’re going to be restricting it to one-third of our capacity, with customers sitting in their own socially-distanced bubbles two metres apart.
“I want to reassure customers they are safe.”
Other planned Covid-safe measures include increased cleaning and hand sanitiser stations while audience members’ temperatures will be taken at the entrance, and people will need to wear masks until they are seated.
A phone app will allow people to order drinks which will be delivered to their seats.
Like all entertainment venues, Laughterhouse shut its doors in March and its staff have been on furlough since then.
Harrington added: “Lots of regulars have said they can’t wait to come back. When we had to close we either offered a refund on bookings or double on booking vouchers, which many people took – and now they can’t wait to spend them!”
Meanwhile she says she can’t wait to present the Laugherhouse comedy line-up at the Liverpool Theatre Festival.
“I wanted it to be an accessible show and it’s selling really well. And we’re also learning from how they’re doing it at the Bombed Out Church with audience bubbles.”
