Tate Liverpool to stage Freud exhibition in 2021

Tate Liverpool is set to showcase the work of British artist Lucien Freud in a free show next summer.

Lucien Freud in Focus will open at the Royal Albert Dock gallery on July 6 2021.

The year-long free In Focus display of paintings and prints is the first significant display of the late figurative artist’s work in the North West for three decades and will include key paintings and works on paper spanning Freud’s entire career.

It will run alongside a major new project by artist Emily Speed who was selected through Tate Liverpool’s inaugural Art North West open call.

Freud, who died in 2011, was influenced by surrealism during his early career as a painter, but by the early 1950s his paintings tended towards realism.

He chose as his subject often the closest people in his life including friends, family, fellow painters, lovers and children.

Meanwhile Emily Speed’s exhibition, from August 5 to October 17, will include a new commission developed for Tate Liverpool and marks her first major solo show in a UK gallery.

Lucien Freud in Focus is at Tate Liverpool from July 6 2021 to January 16 2022 and will be free with a timed ticket entry system. More HERE
