FACT Together reveals its 10 successful artists
FACT has awarded £15,000 of funding to 10 artists and groups as part of its FACT Together programme to support creatives during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Each artist, based in the North of England, will receive £1,500 to create new work in response to the Wood Street venue’s The Living Planet programme.
FACT Together was open to early-career practitioners across the North and was inundated with applications.
The successful artists are: Day Mattar (Liverpool); Elle Bulger (Salford); Gregory Herbert (Liverpool); Jessica El Mal (Manchester); Michael Brailey with Callum Coomber (Manchester); Milda Baginskaitė (Manchester); Niloo Sharifi (Liverpool); Shonagh Short (Manchester); Tammy Reynolds (Liverpool) and Uma Breakdown (Gateshead).
Artists will develop their ideas over the next few months with professional development and support provided from the team at FACT, who are working remotely, and the work will be launched online in August.
Maitreyi Maheshwari, head of programme at FACT, said: “We were overwhelmed by the quality of applications we received. The open call introduced the team to the work of many artists across the north of England who have exciting, dynamic practices.
“While we’re only able to work with a small number of people initially, we look forward to creating more opportunities to work with this incredible talent in the future.”
The Living Planet considers ways in which wildlife, plant life and other ecological systems have responded to the impact of human actions.
