A slice of Utopia comes to Wirral's Rathbone Studio
The idea of utopia is being explored at a Wirral gallery through a special solo show staged by a Liverpool student.
Lydia George, a final year history of art undergraduate at Liverpool John Moores, is behind the multimedia art exhibition, titled Utopia: The Process, at the Rathbone Studio in Birkenhead from March 14-21.
An open house launch event takes place tomorrow from 4-7pm.
George describes The Process as ‘an explorative exhibition into the development of utopia’ explaining: “The concept of utopia has become tarnished by misconceptions of impossibility and futility.
“By taking an art historical approach, this exhibition aims to promote a new conversation on the possibility of a future utopia by examining various utopian experiments of the past.
“There is a central theme of process, encapsulated in the variety of artistic processes on display – ceramics, paintings, textiles – which express the journey towards utopia.”
Utopia: The Process is at the Rathbone Studio in Argyle Street, Birkenhead from March 14-21, Tuesday to Saturday from 2-5pm.
