Band of Gold star cast to appear at Floral Pavilion

Gaynor Faye, Laurie Brett and Shayne Ward are among the cast announced for the world premiere tour of Kay Mellor’s Band of Gold which is coming to New Brighton.

The stage version of Mellor’s hit TV series will visit the Floral Pavilion from February 24-29.

Mellor says: “I’ve been asked many times whether Band of Gold would return, and I’ve always wanted to find a way to breathe life back into the characters we grew to know and love on television.

“I'm thrilled to see the story move from the small screen to the stage, and I can’t wait to bring the world premiere production to the Floral Pavilion.”

The writer (pictured) has teamed up with producer Josh Andrews with whom she worked on the stage version of Fat Friends.

Band of Gold was first aired on TV in 1995 and starred Geraldine James, Barbara Dickson and Samantha Morton along with Liverpool’s Cathy Tyson.

The crime drama, which centred around a group of sex workers in Bradford, won plaudits and audiences of 15 million viewers weekly.

This stage version, described as a “nail-biting, murderous thriller”, also features Hollyoaks’ Kieron Richardson, and Sacha Parkinson (Mr Selfridge, The Mill) as well as Mellor’s real-life daughter Gaynor Faye.
