Everyman and Playhouse unveils winter 2019 season

Daniel Kitson, Nigel Slater’s Toast and a new production of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein are among the autumn season at Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse.

The Playhouse will also host two new touring musicals – Little Miss Sunshine and Amelie – which were announced earlier this month.

And there are a number of events set to take place under the Liverpool Comedy Festival umbrella including appearances by Sindhu Vee, Griff Rhys Jones (below), Adam Buxton, Richard Herring, Justin Moorhouse and musical activist comedians Jonny & The Baptists.

The season opens at the Playhouse from September 10-14 with Toast, the acclaimed stage version of the food critic’s memoirs which tell stories from Slater’s childhood through tastes and smells he shares with his mother.

Meanwhile Liverpool favourite Daniel Kitson brings Keep to Hope Street from September 17-21.

Based around the objects in his home, Keep is new show about how much past the present should contain… and in short, the stuff in his house and the thoughts in his head.

YEP will perform Jim Cartwright’s Road from November 6-9, and Roger McGough presents a new collection of poetry at the Playhouse on November 7.

The Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto is Sleeping Beauty, opening on November 23, while the Playhouse will stage the musical version of festive favourite Miracle on 34th Street.

It has also been announced that the Everyman will premiere Liverpool stage and screen writer Jonathan Harvey’s new play, Our Lady of Blundellsands from March 7-28 2020, directed by Nick Bagnall.

We’ve seen a fabulous response to our musicals in recent seasons and we have a very exciting selection to choose from.

“Looking towards 2020, nothing is ever more satisfying than launching a world premiere of a new play by a local writer. We're thrilled to be producing Our Lady of Blundellsands by much-loved and award-winning writer Jonathan Harvey.

“Every choice has been made with our audience at its heart.”
