Sir Peter Blake Mersey Ferry to continue its Razzle Dazzle

Sir Peter Blake’s Everybody Razzle Dazzle Mersey Ferry has won a reprieve from being repainted.

The Snowdrop was due to be returned to its original livery when it was taken out of service next month for its annual check-up.

But now the Liverpool Biennial – which together with the 14-18NOW initiative and Tate Liverpool was behind the creation of the giant floating artwork – has announced the Pop Art veteran’s ‘dazzle’ design will be refreshed instead.

Everybody Razzle Dazzle was unveiled by Sir Peter, the artist behind the famous Sgt Pepper album cover, in 2015.

The Snowdrop is one of two ships in Liverpool to be given a ‘dazzle ship’ makeover to mark the centenary of the First World War, inspired by the original concept of dazzle camouflage which was designed to confuse the enemy at sea.

The artworks were 14-18NOW Centenary Art Commissions.

Sally Tallant, Director of the Liverpool Biennial, said: “Everybody Razzle Dazzle is one of the city’s iconic public artworks. We’re thrilled that, with the artist’s support, Snowdrop will remain dazzled until the end of its service.

“It has become a recognisable and much-loved feature of Liverpool’s waterfront, alongside other sculptures by internationally-renowned artists such as the recently-launched Liverpool Mountain by Ugo Rondinone on the Royal Albert Dock.”
