Terracotta Warriors a record-breaker for NML
More than 370,000 people have booked to see the Terracotta Warriors since they went on show in Liverpool in February.
And National Museums Liverpool bosses believe the number visiting the China’s First Emperor exhibition will top half-a-million by the time it closes this October, making it the most popular show the organisation has ever held.
Interest in the World Museum exhibition, part of Liverpool 2018 celebrations marking 10 years since the city’s Capital of Culture title, also helped to boost NML visitor numbers for 2017/18 to more than 3.3 million.
NML director of marketing and communications Tracey McGeagh said: “More than three quarters of visitors told us that our Terracotta Warriors exhibition was the main reason for their visit to Liverpool.
“We also know from our wider research that there is a substantial upward trend in the number of visitors to our museums and galleries from abroad this year: at least 40,000 more than last year.”
Research also suggests the exhibition contributed more than £20m to the local economy in its first three months of being open.
Meanwhile due to demand, World Museum Liverpool has just announced late night openings for the exhibition on Fridays and Saturdays in August, with timed entry tickets up until 8pm.
