Roll up for the Mystery tour at The Beatles Story

The Magical Mystery Tour is waiting to take you away in a new exhibition at The Beatles Story.

The Beatles’ oddball road movie was first screened on television on Boxing Day 1967, and to mark the 50th anniversary the Albert Dock attraction has opened a new Magical Mystery Tour section of its exhibition.

Visitors can learn more about the film, which was generally panned by critics, and will be able to be able to view the footage on loop in its entirety through the window of a replica tour bus.

It was Paul McCartney who had the idea of creating a film based upon the group and their music, in which various "ordinary" people were to travel on a coach and take a journey of spontaneous "magical" adventures.

The roadtrip was shot in the West Country in September 1967, and among those on the charabanc was actor Victor Spinetti, who had appeared in A Hard Day’s Night and Help!, Beatles roadie Mal Evans, Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band frontman Vivian Stanshall, and Scottish poet and songwriter Ivor Cutler.

While the film was a flop however, the soundtrack, released as an EP, was a big hit with fans.

Of course if you fancy going on your own Magical Mystery Tour, you can take one around the main Beatles sights in Liverpool on a bus run by Cavern City Tours from the Albert Dock.
