Storytellers bring famous Welsh legend to Liverpool

Welsh mythology is being brought to the stage in Liverpool by musicians and storytellers this week.

Dreaming the Night Field: a legend of Wales will be performed by Adverse Camber at the Capstone Theatre in Everton.

It features the Fourth Branch of the Mabinogion, a series of four stories that stand as a central pillar of Welsh culture, and promises a tale of betrayal, revenge, love, honour, magic and transformation that will “transport audiences to the living landscape of North Wales and its brilliant night sky”.

Characters include Gwydion, nephew to the king, a magician and storyteller, who provokes a war between North and South Wales and unleashes a chaos of consequences, and Blodeuwedd, a beautiful woman conjured from flowers, is torn between duty and desire with fateful results.

Adverse Camber brings together storyteller, Michael Harvey, acclaimed folk musician Stacey Blythe and Lynne Denman.

Michael Harvey says: “Audiences tell us The Mabinogion is a story they remember experiencing in a classroom, or as a book on their shelf.

In Dreaming the Night Field we bring these stories, which are part of everyone’s heritage, vividly to life with an immersive and accessible live performance, reinventing them for today’s audiences.”

Dreaming The Night Field: a legend of Wales is at the Capstone Theatre on October 12. Tickets from the website HERE.
