Celebrate Heritage Open Days at Calderstones

Heritage Open Days take place next month, and visitors to Calderstones Park will be able to enjoy a colourful Courtyard Fair as part of the celebrations.

The Reader has joined forces with Independent Liverpool to stage the event on Saturday, September 9.

And along with the fair, which will give people the chance to browse and buy crafts and unique products, there will also be guided tours of the park taking in the prehistoric Calder Stones themselves as well as the Mansion House which is about to be regenerated as The International Centre For Shared Reading.

Families can enjoy storytelling fun with free sessions in The Storybarn during the day, and there will also be a big book swap.

George Hawkins, The Reader’s Heritage Manager, said: “We’re very excited to be part of Heritage Open Days again this year – it’s a fantastic opportunity for people to come together to celebrate the unique and ancient history of Calderstones Park, especially before our refurbishment work begins.

“Stories about the Allerton Oak and Jet the Rescue Dog may be well-known to local residents, but visitors from across the city and further afield may be surprised to discover so much history in one place.”

The Courtyard Fair will take place at Calderstones Park on September 9 from 10am to 5pm.
