Liverpool hosts the Hope & Glory festival

What do you get if you mix a line-up of top music acts with a Victorian carnival atmosphere?

The answer, it appears, is Hope & Glory - the new kid on the block of Liverpool’s busy summer festival season - which takes place this weekend.

A week on from Pride, St George’s Quarter will be transformed in to a festival site once more.

Among the acts taking to The Great Exhibition stage over the weekend will be festival headliners Hacienda Classical, James, Ocean Colour Scene, The Fratellis, Razorlight, Tom Chaplin, Badly Drawn Boy, Lightning Seeds and Reverend & The Makers.

Meanwhile organisers are promising The Wonders of the Age stage will play host to some of the best new artists in the UK, including The Blinders and Coquin Migale, as well as more established musicians like Starsailor, and Dave McCabe and Ian Skelly who are teaming up to present a set.

It will also host comedy, a football legends charity darts match, and even an air guitar competition complete with invisible six string windmilling.

Across the festival site there will also be pop up ‘soap box’ performances including magic, acoustic performances and spoken word, while food and drink offers include a gin palace and a barbecue from the engine of a Mini.
